Doyle Simons and John Wiehoff: New Faces on Union Pacific’s Board of Directors

OMAHA, Neb., July 26, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE: UNP) has appointed Doyle Simons, former president and CEO of Weyerhaeuser, and John Wiehoff, ex-chairman, president, and CEO of C.H. Robinson, to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. The move is part of Union Pacific’s ongoing board renewal strategy, according to Mike McCarthy, Lead Independent Director of the Board.

In response to the appointments, Simons highlighted Union Pacific’s emphasis on strong customer relationships, and Wiehoff acknowledged the company’s crucial role in delivering everyday goods.

The Board has also initiated a new Safety and Service Quality committee, led by Director Jane Lute. Sheri Edison will chair the Corporate Governance, Nominating and Sustainability Committee, effective from August 14, 2023.

Simultaneously, Union Pacific announced key leadership changes, with Jim Vena named as the new CEO, Beth Whited as the president, and McCarthy set to become the chairman of the Board, effective August 14, 2023. These changes follow Lance Fritz’s resignation from his roles as chairman, president, and CEO.
